Sunday school classes meet every Sunday during the academic year from 9:20-10:20 am for 2 year olds through 8th grade. Bible stories and lessons are taught on a 3 year cycle. The current curriculum is “Growing in Christ” from Concordia Publishing House. Rally Day, which is the kick-off for the Sunday School year, is held the first Sunday after Labor Day. Other Sunday School events include presenting Bibles to third graders, the Christmas program in December, a Palm Sunday processional, singing/assisting with worship during the year, and celebrating with an end of the year ice cream party. Sunday School children also learn about different local, national, and world mission projects and help support these charities with their offerings.
LOGOS is the name of Mount Olive's strong mid-week education ministry. Each Wednesday from 4:30-7:00 p.m.(September through May), children and LOGOS staff gather together to study the Bible, enjoy supper as a whole group, make music, play together and worship. There is a registration fee which helps cover the costs of food and curriculum.
Children in grades 1-6th study Bible stories, the Lord's Prayer, the Apostle's Creed, the 10 Commandments, and the background of worship. 5th grade students are instructed in the fall about the Lord's Supper before receiving Holy Communion for the first time. Each February, students in 1st-6th grade lead worship in both services with a musical. Students in these grades also assist in worship throughout the year singing in the LOGOS choir.
7th and 8th grade students are instructed in Luther's Small Catechism by Pastor to prepare for Confirmation. They also help lead worship during the year playing chimes and handbells.
Every other year a unit on Martin Luther and the Reformation is included within the curriculum. During the month of December, all LOGOS staff and students visit a nursing home and carol for the residents.
